Details have come to light about Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi's forthcoming autobiography.

The description reads, "Everything associated with hard rock happened to Black Sabbath first: the drugs, the debauchery, the drinking, the dungeons, the pressure, the pain, the conquests, the company men, the contracts, the combustible drummer, the critics, the comebacks, the singers, the Stonehenge set, the music, the money, the madness, the metal."

Bravewords.com write that the book will be released on October 13 in the UK and November 1 in the US.

Although fansite Black-Sabbath.com says the book is not yet finished and the release date may change.

My Chemical Romance respond to propaganda claim

My Chemical Romance respond to propaganda claim
My Chemical Romance respond to right-wing pundit Glenn Beck's claims that their music is 'propaganda'.

Conspiracy theorist and right-wing Fox broadcaster Glenn Beck went on an odd rant last week about youth culture.

He picked out Glee and My Chemical Romance as part of our current culture which 'is set up for you, and the values that we grew up on, to lose'.

He said he watched Glee in 'stunned horror' as a valueless 'nightmare' unfolded in front of him.

And he picked out the lyrics to 'Sing' by My Chemical Romance, that was performed on Glee, comparing it to North Korean propaganda.

My Chemical Romance have now responded to the rant on their website.

Frontman Gerard Way writes, ' think the word Glenn Beck was looking for was 'subversion' not 'propaganda', because I don't know what it would be considered propaganda for- truth? sentiment?

'And I can't tell what he's angrier about- the fact that it's how I feel about the persistent sterilization of our culture or the fact that it's on network television for everyone to hear.

Referring to the lyrics Beck analysed from the song, Way writes, ''m actually shocked that no actual fact-checking was done on the lyrics. I mean Fox is a major news channel, covering factual topics in an unbiased and intelligent ' oh wait '

'To quote the man himself ' 'You don't have to live by the standards that society has set,' I couldn't agree more.'

Adele wants to have sex with Rihanna

Adele wants to have sex with Rihanna
The 'Someone Like You' hitmaker ' who is straight ' has been infatuated with the Bajan beauty since she saw her perform on Simon Cowell's talent search show 'The X Factor' last year, admitting the 'Rude Boy' singer's "stunning thighs" made her feel "a bit gay".

She said: "If Rihanna wanted me, I'd do it with her. She's hot.

"She had pinstripe flares on. She whipped them off and there were her stunning thighs. I said to all my girlfriends, 'Are you feeling a bit gay right now?"

Despite the 23-year-old singer's girl crush on Rihanna she still loves boys but finds her singledom increasingly "depressing".

Adele added in an interview with The Sun newspaper: "I love boys, love men. I am fascinated by them even though at times they let you down and hurt me. But right now I am more single than ever. It's so depressing."

One thing likely to cheer the singer up is the karaoke bash she is hosting for her 23rd birthday tonight (05.05.11), where she is planning to belt out R Kelly's hit 'Ignition'.

She said: "I'm having a karaoke party. I'll be singing R Kelly's 'Ignition'. I've been learning my harmonies all day.'

Hayseed Dixie Biography

Hayseed Dixie BiographyJustify Full
Is there really such a thing as a hillbilly band covering rock classics? You betcha. They are called Hayseed Dixie and they play Rockgrass.

Barley Scotch is on lead vocals, fiddle and guitar. The Reverend Don-Wayne Reno is on banjo, Deacon Dale Reno is on mandolin and guitar and Jake ‘Bakesnake’ Byers is on acoustic bass. Hayseed Dixie are an awesome live band, who have, to date, released 9 albums. The latest, ‘Killer Grass’ was released in 2010. A live DVD entitled ‘No Sleep ‘til Liverpool’ is also available.

Songs by artists such as Kiss, Outkast, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith get the Rockgrass treatment, but the band play original songs too. - numbers such as ‘Moonshiner’s Daughter’, ‘Kirby Hill’ and ‘Blind Beggar Breakdown’ raise the roof at live shows. Hayseed Dixie songs cover the four key elements of any song worth playing; - Drinkin’, Cheatin’, Killin’ and Hell! - The band also recorded an album of rocked-up bluegrass classics, called ‘*Choose Your Own Title’ using the name The Kerosene Brothers.

Brothers Dale Reno and Don—Wayne Reno are the sons of bluegrass maestro Don Reno, who wrote many hits, including ‘Dueling Banjos’, and the band even once played at a house-warming party for AC/DC bass player Cliff Williams.

Beware of instrumental cover tracks mis-tagged as ‘Hayseed Dixie’! (often from the ‘Pickin’ On…’ series of albums.)… as Barley Scotch has said, “If a song’s got word’s we’ll sing ‘em!” - A full list of albums and tracks can be found at the band’s website.

Paramore Biography

Paramore Biography
Although their spunky blend of emo-pop and anthemic rock eventually made them stars on both sides of the Atlantic, Paramore began humbly enough in Franklin, TN, where lead singer Hayley Williams met brothers Josh and Zac Farro after moving to town from Mississippi. The two Farros had a band that the 13 year-old singer was asked to join, and guitarist Jason Bynum and bassist Jeremy Davis soon climbed aboard to complete Paramore's lineup. Local hangouts and a school talent show helped the young bandmembers hone their chops before graduating to higher-level gigs at area rock clubs.

The quintet's pop-influenced melodies and earnest charisma -- not to mention Williams' powerhouse vocals -- eventually caught the attention of Florida's Fueled by Ramen label, which signed the band in April 2005. Working with producers James Wisner and Mike Green, Paramore recorded their full-length debut, All We Know Is Falling, and released it in late July 2005. In addition to a performance at New Jersey's Bamboozle Festival and multiple dates on the Warped Tour circuit, Paramore played shows with such bands as Simple Plan and Straylight Run. Hunter Lamb replaced Bynum on guitar in December 2005, and the band spent the following summer on Warped Tour once again, cementing their relationship with fans who had caught the previous summer's shows. Lamb parted ways with the group in early 2007 to get married, and Paramore continued onward as a quartet.

The following summer saw the release of the band's sophomore album, Riot!, which was recorded alongside producer David Bendeth and issued by the band's new label, Atlantic Records. Buoyed by the popular singles "Misery Business," "crushcrushcrush," and "That's What You Get," Riot! turned Paramore into industry darlings, going platinum within its first 13 months and earning the band a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. With replacement guitarist Taylor York onboard, the group toured exhaustively in support of the record, even landing a two-month jaunt across the continental U.S. with Jimmy Eat World. Meanwhile, Paramore found time to contribute two songs to the Twilight soundtrack, including the Top 40 single "Decode." A live album entitled The Final Riot! was released several weeks after the Twilight soundtrack, capturing the band's energy as a live act and concluding the touring cycle in support of Riot!.

Paramore publically struggled with fame throughout 2008. Of particular note was the attention lavished upon Hayley Williams, whom many media outlets deemed to be the leader of the group. Rumors of a breakup began to circulate, yet Paramore's lineup remained intact, and the band retreated to a California studio in 2009 to work on a third album. Following a popular summer tour with No Doubt, the group issued Brand New Eyes, a pensive record that featured some of Paramore's strongest songwriting to date. The album debuted at number two with sales of 175,000 copies, besting Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel in the process. Corey Apar & Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide

Adele Biography

Adele Biography
"As soon as I got a microphone in my hand, when I was about 14, I realised I wanted to do this," she says. "Most people don't like the way their voice sounds when it's recorded. I was just so excited by the whole thing that I wasn't bothered what it sounded like."

A fan of such diverse artists as Jill Scott, Etta James, Billy Bragg, Peggy Lee, Jeff Buckley and The Cure, Adele's soul-tinged songs of love's lost and memories made are set to resonate with all who hear them.

"I've got no problem explaining what my lyrics are about," ADELE says. "I really like poetry: I'm not very good at reading it, but I love writing it. Singers like Jill Scott and Karen Dalton are amazing; proper poets."

"My debut album is about being between 18 and 19; about love," she continues. "'Daydreamer' is about this boy I was in love with, like proper in love with. He was bi and I couldn't deal with that. All the things I wanted from my boyfriend, he was never going to be. I get really jealous anyway, so I couldn't fight with girls and boys. It's quite a sad album, [with songs about] being cheated on and not getting what you want".

Anchoring it all together is ADELE's incredible voice. As immediate as it is undeniable, its power is matched only by her Force 10 personality. "I've always liked being the centre of attention, yes," she laughs.

ADELE is from a resolutely un-musical family. "It all comes from impersonating The Spice Girls and Gabrielle," she cheerfully explains. "I did little concerts in my room for my mum and her friends. My mum's quite arty; she'd get all these lamps and shine them up to make one big spotlight. They'd all sit on the bed." Later, when her dad's best friend, a dance producer, rightly declared ADELE's voice 'wicked', he invited her to record a cover of 'Heart Of Glass'. The first time she got a microphone in her hand, she realised her calling.

Secondary school proved instructive in as much as it gave ADELE an outlet to "meet all the R&B kids" and "sit around the playground singing." But it was a pretty rough place and pursuing music there was something of a challenge, on account of the fact that ADELE wanted to sing and perform her songs but "the teacher was a bit rubbish. They gave me a really hard time, trying to bribe me, saying that if I wanted to sing I had to play clarinet to sing in the choir. So I left."

So ADELE upped sticks, signing up to The Brit School, the Selhurst college whose alumni number Amy Winehouse, members of The Feeling and Kate Nash. However she had her misgivings…

"If I hear someone's from stage school I'd think they were a dickhead, and I know it might make me sound like that. But it had free rehearsal rooms and free equipment and I was listing to music all day, every day for years. The music course was really wicked. There was no dancing or anything like that. No jazz hands."

During her second year, ADELE's resolve to be a singer was given a little extra boost – Shingai Shoniwa, the turbo-lunged vocalist with The Noisettes moved in next door. "She's an amazing singer. I used to hear her through the walls. I'd go round and we'd jam and stuff like that. Just hearing her and her music really made me want to be a writer and not just sing Destiny's Child songs. "

Despite being quick off the mark on MySpace – her friend set up a page for ADELE's music on the last day of 2004 – it wasn't until 2006 that labels started noticing her talent. "I'd hate people to think that I was a 'MySpace singer'," she says. "I've got no right to be that. I've got, like, 10,000 'friends', whereas Jack Peñate's got about one million…"

When XL called her in for a meeting, ADELE was nervous enough to take a chum with her.
"I never, ever thought I'd get signed. The A&R guy emailed me and I was ignoring it… I didn't realise they [XL] did all these amazing names…"

Despite interest from plenty of other labels, the independent regarded for its one-off, defining acts (for rock band, see The White Stripes; for rapper, see Dizzee Rascal) proved the perfect match for her one-off talent, and XL will put out ADELE's stunning debut album "19" early next year. A single, the beautiful heartbreaker, 'Chasing Pavements' will precede it.

Before that comes ADELE's debut release on Jamie T's Pacemaker Recordings label, 'Hometown Glory' – a stunningly evocative picture of "all my fondest memories of London". 'Daydreamer', a remarkable ballad notable for lyrics like 'feeling up his girl like he'd never felt her figure before' and 'he could change the world with his hands behind his back' has already floored the audience on the prestigious 'Later With Jools Holland'.

Jason Mraz Biography

Jason Mraz Biography
jasonmraz is a southern california wanna-be born in virginia to a brief stint in new york studying the ancient art of musical theatre. jason began playing guitar late in life, 18, at strawberry fields and on the streets of manhattan. during that period of experimentation and transformation, jason was inspired by a psychic in central park to dream the way he does today. the lesson offered to him was "to avoid the questioner and go with what you know. get experience youth, he said" and following this new rule as well as his instincts to sing he eventually made his way out west where he has spent the last two years in san diego learning from the best about sleep, peace, and poetry in song.

jason has always had a vision to see how songs could be interpreted if left only to the listener to decide. what began as "songs to sleep to", a collection of songs for an album fit to play during one's dreamlife, has now evolved into a moving wide awake exploration for jason. since his ridiculous move out west (according to his virginia native family), he has shared venues with bob dylan, paula cole, jewel, and david gray to name a few.

in 2002 jason set up camp in los angeles and partnered with percussionist toca rivera playing weekly there and still in san diego at the world famous java joe's in ocean beach. (check local listings) together they are traveling the coasts this summer and are moving to make the album jason once heard in a dream.

the following is an excerpt of an interview i never had with jason earlier this year. it is 2001, the year of the snake, jason's birth year. he is excited, optimistic, and encouragably humble.

what inspires jasonmraz?
"robots. i admire the old ones man predicted would evolve that look a lot like humans in aluminum foil costumes. it says something about how we envision the future. at least, how our forefathers saw it"

"god. understanding that there is god in everything. especially us. and god sees fit that we do and say whatever we need to to play our part in this life. knowing there is no right or wrong answer.. and stuff."

"breakdancing. i never learned to do it when it came around the first time. but i once saw a man of 60 plus years throw down. i knew it was never too late to begin anything."

"smoking. it's religious. something about seeing your breath, breathing fire, feeling like a dragon or sinatra. i think sometimes i'll smoke myself new octaves." "..and dreams."

what about musical inspirations?
"oh those. the last few years i've submerged myself in anything i could get my hands on. there's so much out there. i love instrumentalists like AIR, or name any DJ. i'm more into dancing than understanding someone's story. if i listen to too many words at once i get my own out of order. but if i have to answer i'd tell you belle and sebastian, beck, bjork, john coltrane, miles davis, nick drake, bob dylan, michael jackson, dave matthews, greg page, toca rivera, sade, ..sir mix-a-lot to be alphabetical. that's a tough question. i could name hundreds i keep in rotation."

how do you meet toca rivera and convince him to join you?
"it wasn't hard. he was one of the first people i met when i moved to san diego. i joined he and his brother carlos olmeda and we did some touring together and a commercial for spike lee, thanks to carlos. that was an amazing experience. after awhile we all went our own way to write and make sure we didn't kill each other before the ride was over. i asked toca if he wanted to keep playing with me. i dug the groove toca laid down with his drum. he says he digs the songs and i like delicate touch on the harmonies he finds. he's like every member of the dave matthews band and boys to men rolled up in one prized wind-up teddy bear designed to beat drum. and the ladies love some toca rivera. he was once on the love connection in the eighties. grand champion i think."

any pets?
"just toca.. no, not anymore. times were tough once. we got hungry."

any loves in your life?
"just the pursuit of happiness right now. that's love to me. but whatever or whoever gets in the way i'll ask to dance usually."

how many times a day does someone like you look at his tongue in the mirror?
"twenty, at least. that's four times an hour during the five i'm awake at home working. and usually those are during the midnight hours."

so where are the rest of your hours spent?
"searching. be it hidden within the grip of l.a.'s tit, or tucked safely somewhere in my head that i lean to in my bed. i love dreams. i can't get enough of them. everyday i wake up asking myself, who came up with that? oh, you did."

like what?
"like this one dream i had. i was visiting a high school where i guess i was working for this new telephone company. i was with my partner and we were installing a new phone booth into one of the halls. before we were even done programming the thousands of numbers needed to program, there was a line through the whole school waiting to use this phone. it wasn't your average phone. you could dial up old conversations you'd had with someone years ago, like a loved one or former schoolmate. you just sat there and listened to the two of you talk. the phonebook was printed to give you letters you had written or once received that needed to be found and rediscovered. i woke up laughing and wishing i could get to one of those phones. i tried to get some investors and get the prototype rolling but it was a lot harder to do that was presented in my dream. but you see what i mean? i never would have come up with that in my state of awake."

"i think there is so much life to be lived and learned, especially when you are asleep. and the things you can do are boundless compared to this simple life. i'm sure everyone flies from time to time and it's always enough to leave an impression and create a memory of doing so. and that's what a life is really. a collection of memories."

are you into finding what's symbolic of your dreams?
"always. but according to freud i'm a pervert. i find peace of mind where i need to and complete awe in others. i think of them as movies i've seen and come up with my own interpretations. often in my music. it's how i've gotten so far i believe."

like the saying, follow your dreams.
"exactly. eventually you find the fine line between when you are awake and when you are knocked out. and then you're really collecting and creating. it's important that i try to make a life rather than a living."

you seem to be doing just that. and folks are catching on. it seems you are gaining new followers day by day who just love what you do.
"i think maybe they laugh at what i do. but as long as i can take them away from any stress for a couple of hours, i'll be anyone's clown. i love to see the world smile. and while the world's got it's mouth open grinning, i'll sing right down their throats hoping they'll find their own way of regurgitating it later spreading the sickness of simple life. like a global vomiting of wisdom, purity, and enlightenment. good things."

so what's next for jasonmraz?
"i think just that. i've had a lot of luck finding those who share my dream and wish to pursue this as a career. we're taking the steps now to advance to a more major market and turn more on lives to the madness. there are still many secrets i wish to unveil and many places in this world i wish to see and feel. i hope to just keep moving, writing, singing and sleeping until there is nothing left to be said and done. and by the looks of our current boundaries, we've only just begun."

one more question. if this were a perfect world. where would you be and what would you be doing?
"i've had this one before. i'd be right here doing this. it is a perfect world somewhat and we all have the power to be and do what we choose. there is nowhere i'd rather be and no name i'd rather call myself."

Travis Porter Biography

Travis Porter Biography
Originally formed in 2006 as the Hard Hitters, the trio officially switched to the enigmatic moniker Travis Porter in 2008. MC’s Ali (Lakeem Mattox), Quez (Donquez Woods), and Strap (Harold Duncan) grew up together in Decatur, GA, and got together with the hope of taking over the rap world from the underground up. The irreverent group began to cultivate a strong internet presence, releasing videos through their YouTube page and releasing four mixtapes, Who Is Travis Porter?, I’m a Differenter, I’m a Differenter 2, and Streets R’Us in 2009. The group caused some controversy that year when they inadvertently released a Roscoe Dash single they did a guest spot on, “All the Way Turnt Up,” on one of their own tapes. Dash eventually re-recorded the song with Soulja Boy and released the new version the following year. After releasing three more mixtapes, Proud 2 Be a Problem, I Am Travis Porter, and Differenter Gang, in 2010, the band found themselves being courted by labels hoping to bring them to a larger audience. Travis Porter eventually decided to sign with Jive, where they felt they would get the most attention, near the end of 2010. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi

Mike Posner Biography

Mike Posner Biography
Making two of the year's most talked-about, genre-defying mix tapes is never easy – especially not if you're doing it in your dorm room in the middle of the night, with homework piling up, friends banging on your door and the campus police barging in to shut down the noise you're making.

“I sacrificed my social life last semester,” shrugs Mike Posner, the producer/singer wunderkind who just finished his last class at Duke University, with a major in business and sociology, a semester early and with a GPA of 3.5. Posner will walk with the rest of his class for graduation in May 2010. But then the 22-year-old – who first emerged on his dorm-born mixtape “A Matter of Time,” released in March on iTunesU, and who's set to drop his first album this summer on J Records – lets out a fraternal, mischievous smile. It's the smile of a college kid who knows he's on the verge of something huge. “I feel like I've earned certain things now.”

For instance: props from Kanye and Jay Z, songs with Kid Cudi and Wale, shared bills with artists like Gym Class Heroes and Ben Folds, and a devoted, diverse following that already seems to know all the words to songs spread only through word of mouth.

Posner doesn't think twice about the popularity of his surprising, mashed-up sound, which owes as much to electro-pop as to southern hip hop, soul and R&B.

“I'm just making pop music that's not corny, pop music that you don't have to call a guilty pleasure, music you don't have to be embarrassed about,” he explains. “I go everywhere pop artists go but without losing my credibility.” Essential to Posner's credibility are laser-sharp songwriting and production chops that unfurl lyrics as slick and dense as the grooves and chords they populate. And he sings too, in a distinctive, raspy tenor somewhere between Daniel Merriweather and Macy Gray.

Posner's talent has given him a beaming, headstrong confidence. “Just kill this project by yourself, produce it, write it without any help, and people are gonna be sucked in,” he exclaims.

Sometimes that assurance sounds like a front. For all of its pop flavor, Posner's music hints at an existentialism well beyond his years. That tension drives his breakout song, “Cooler Than Me,” a hot pop ode to a former crush that floats somewhere between kiss-off independence and doe-eyed obsession. “I hope that you like this,” he sings over a slick acoustic guitar and thick beats, “but you probably won't.”

Posner's not afraid to acknowledge his influences and cite his sources, even as he's improving upon them. “Sampling” other songs doesn't just reveal his unabashed pop affections: it underscores his ambition to breathe new life into the form. “Halo,” his shimmering, beat-heavy rendition of Beyonce's break-up song is such a refreshing take on the original that its producer, Evan Bogart, called Posner in for a studio session. On “Evil Woman” Posner strips the Electric Light Orchestra's polyester original down to its chorus and chord progressions, then sing-raps over a rollicking beat. And “Still Not Over You” – a soulful, head-bumping renovation of The Fray's “Over My Head” – trades half the original's emo drama for a cheeky dirty South hip hop swagger: “Remember babe I wrote you all those love poems in seventh grade ... I don't want to see them up for sale on eBay, don't put them on eBay.”

Posner's joking, but only by half. The fans are already obsessed. When organizers at a Duke concert cut the sound last year after it ran over time, hundreds of students simply shouted out the rest of the song for him. Posner chalks up his fan base to a word-of-mouth that began with his wide friend network. “The marketing plan of my mixtape was just to put it on iTunesU and ask my friends to tell their friends. People really liked the music. It wasn't just one song.”

By spring of 2009, Posner found himself on campuses across the country, playing shows for hundreds of fans who opened their hearts and common rooms to him. On the road, he often passes up hotel rooms for fans' couches. “If I do a show at a college, I'm expected to go party, whether or not I have a flight the next day. And that's cool – I feel comfortable everywhere.”

Musically too, Posner's best asset is a sharp ear that locates pop resonances across the musical spectrum. It's the result of an adolescence without filters, in a vortex of musical influences. Growing up in a Jewish family in Southfield, Michigan, outside Detroit, Motown “was spoon-fed to me my whole life,” Posner says. “My dad was a Deadhead but he had a really interesting taste in music – B.B. King, Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross – sometimes even the Counting Crows.” (He nearly boasts: “We listened to them on car trips, before they got big!”)

An auspicious summer at band camp at the age of 15 hooked Posner on the drums, but it was his daily bus ride to school that offered the most thorough education in the ABC's of hit-making. “I had one of those huge CD books, and I'd listen to everything,” says Posner. He rattles off names like Led Zepplin, Nas, Pearl Jam, Talib Kweli, Paul Simon, Elton John, Billy Joel, Outkast, Eric Clapton and Nirvana – a list that helps explains not only his musical scope, but also his producer's acuity. In other words, as he says, “I know when something's dope.”

A summer internship at a Detroit hip hop station after his freshman year of college didn't hurt either. Once, his parents detested the beats that emanated from the cheap keyboard and computer in his room. Now, many keyboards and samplers later, he says, his folks bump “Cooler Than Me” in the car. “My mom finally liked something I did,” he says with pride.

In his group of friends he found as many layers. “In high school I didn't have a crew: I was part of every crew. I would hang out with the black kids, and the next hour I'd be hanging with the Jewish kids, or hanging out with the football players,” he says. “I was always transgressing those boundaries.”

Never one to be pent in by categories, last year Posner decided to add another credit to his repertoire: singing. “A lot of producers would send their beats out to singers, but I didn't know any singers. I would sing a lot of times with the notion that my vocal would be replaced eventually by someone else. But as time went on, as I wrote more hooks, eventually I had these songs that wouldn't work for anybody else. Someone else could sing all the notes for my songs, but I can't picture any artists in the industry singing those lyrics.”

That's because buried between his steamy beats is a deep pathos born as much out of frigid Michigan winters as out of his solitary working process, Posner says. “The craziest thoughts and conversations I've had take place in my own head. Music is a way to open up that window and let other people in.”

While “Cooler Than Me” and “Drug Dealer Girl” – a pleading ode to a squeeze especially close to his heart and his marijuana – only hint at Posner's inner demons, the mixtape's title track, “Matter of Time,” offers a cautionary tale that digs far beneath the skin of the driven solo artist.

“I was bombarded with these people hitting me up, wanting to work with me, and I realized all these people were thinking they were just gonna be so big,” says Posner. “I thought it's just a matter of time before they realize it's not going to happen to most of them. Or it's a matter of time before they do make it, and then nobody remembers you. Whether you're the biggest star in the world or not, time will conquer you.”

Still, Posner's got an early start, and he's determined to keep his star shining for his next twenty-two years. With as able a command of the microphone as of the keyboard and the studio controls, he's starting to sound less like the student and more like the maestro. And when he's on stage, piecing together beats and chords while leading the audience in thumping singalongs, he already looks like the maestro too.

Posner's not stopping there. “I'm doing something nobody else can do or has done yet, and I'm blessed to be signed to a label and be finishing school,” he says, his hushed voice tinged with a sense of wonder and a preternatural honesty. “A lot of people in my position would think I've worked within this box, and I have to recreate what I've already done. But I'm already so much better than I was when I made my mixtape.” He promises: “The album is going to be nuts.”

Mini Biography

Shawn Corey Carter was born 4 December 1969 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Raised in Brooklyn, Carter was a school friend of the Notorious B.I.G. He first started releasing records in the late 1980s. In 1990, he appeared on records by his close friend Jaz ("The Originators") and Original Flavor ("Can I Get Open"), and later scored an underground hit single with 1995"s "In My Lifetime". Drawing on Jaz's dealings with mercenary labels, Jay-Z set up his own Roc-A-Fella imprint in 1996 with entrepreneur Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke. His debut set, Reasonable Doubt, went on to achieve gold sales and produced the US number 50 pop single "Ain't No Nigga"/"Dead Presidents", featuring future rap star Foxy Brown. The album, which reached US number 23 in July, attracted fans with a mixture of hard-hitting street lyrics and rhymes, epitomized by the collaboration with Notorious B.I.G. on "Brooklyn's Finest". The follow-up In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 was released in the aftermath of Notorious B.I.G.'s murder, and debuted at US number 3 in November 1997. Featuring guest appearances from Puff Daddy, Lil' Kim, Too Short, BLACKstreet and DJ Premier, this sombre and intensely personal album included the stand-out tracks "You Must Love Me" and "Where I'm From". Although in demand as a guest artist, Jay-Z found the time to write, produce, and direct the semi-autobiographical short Streets Is Watching. The gold-selling soundtrack introduced several of Roc-A-Fella's rising stars, including Memphis Bleek, Rell and Diamonds In The Rough, and featured the hit single "It's Alright". Jay-Z then became a major star with the hit singles, "Can I Get A ... " and "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)", the latter built around a line from the musical Annie. One of the more bizarre samples to be used on a hip-hop track, the single nevertheless became an international hit (UK number 2, December 1998/US number 15, March 1999). The album of the same name featured hotshot producer Timbaland, in addition to the usual team of Ski and DJ Premier. Guest rappers included DMX, Foxy Brown and Too Short, on a package that diluted Jay-Z's hard-hitting lyrical edge in an attempt to corner the crossover market. Vol. 2 -- Hard Knock Life easily succeeded in its aim, staying at US number 1 for five weeks before finally being deposed by Alanis Morissette's new album. Despite a hectic schedule as a guest producer/writer and rapper, Jay-Z still found the time to enter the studio and record tracks for his new album. Released in December 1999, Vol. 3 ... Life And Times Of S. Carter confirmed his status as one of hip-hop's most popular artists when it topped the album charts the following month. The following year's The Dynasty: Roc La Familia 2000, another US chart-topper, was originally planned as a supergroup collaboration with fellow Roc-A-Fella rappers Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek and Amil.

The Princess of Pop

Mini Biography

Britney Jean Spears was born in rural Louisiana (Kentwood) to Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears. As a child, Britney attended dance classes, and she was great at gymnastics, winning many competitions and the like. But, most of all, Britney loved to sing. At age 8, Britney tried out for "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" (1989), but was turned down due to her young age. This directed her to an off-Broadway show, "Ruthless", for a 2-year run as the title character. At age 11, she again tried for "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" (1989) and, this time, made it as a mouseketeer alongside many stars of today (Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chasez of *NSYNC and Ryan Gosling). Her big break, however, came when she was signed as a Jive Recording Artist in the late 90s. With the release of her debut album, "...Baby One More Time" in early 1999, Britney became an international success, selling 13 million copies of "Baby" and 9 million (as of July 2001) of her sophomore album, "Oops!...I Did It Again", released in May of 2000.

Mini Biography

"Pop Phenomenon" doesn't come close to describing Britney Spears. The name is legend around the world. So famous is Britney Spears now that it's impossible to imagine a World in which she doesn't exist.

Born in the small town of Kentwood, Louisiana, to parents Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears, Britney is their second child of three. Her older brother, Bryan Spears, was born in April 1977 and her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, was born in April 1991. From a young age, Britney was always fixing to be a star with idols such as Madonna, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, the young Britney could always be heard singing, no matter what else was going on around her. After taking extensive dance and vocal lessons and performing in numerous talent shows and fairs, Britney auditioned for "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" (1989) TV series [1989-1994] when she 8, however, she was too young to get the part. Instead, Britney, her mother and baby sister moved to New York where she starred in several TV adverts and an off-Broadway play, "Ruthless", where she was understudy with Natalie Portman. Her love of music and dance took over and, 2 years later, she auditioned for a part on "Mickey Mouse" again and, this time, won the part along with Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. As a Mouseketeer, Britney received extensive training in dance, drama and singing and had to grow up a lot during that time. However, after the show was canceled two years later, Britney returned home and did "the normal teenager thing", attending pool parties and she was also the Homecoming Queen. As a young teenager, Britney soon grew restless again and this time was desperate to become a star yet again. Again, she traveled to New York and sent out demo tapes to various labels including Sony and Mercury, but was turned down. It was Jive Records that finally took the young Britney on and set out on making her the star she is today.

She hit the studio with writers/producers, such as Max Martin and Eric Foster White, and the result was her debut album. In late 1998, Jive released her debut single "(Hit me) Baby one more time" which was a pop hit around the Globe, accompanied by the sixteen-year-old first of many controversial acts - the video, which featured Britney dressed in a Catholic schoolgirl uniform, baring her midriff, which was soon to become her trademark. Nonetheless, the single was a smash worldwide and Britney was instantly a household name. She toured with the popular boy band *NSYNC and the single shot to the top of the charts for 3 weeks. Her debut album was released a few months later in early 1999 and, like the single, took to the top of the album charts, where it remained number one for six weeks. The album has now sold millions worldwide and is officially 14 x platinum in the US. Her next controversial act, after the video, was to take the cover of Rolling Stones magazine in a suggestive pose, but as Britney mania took off, the 17-year-old became more and more popular. Appealing to young girls, teenage boys and older men, Britney was on her way, yet nobody could have predicted at that time the impact she would have on Pop Culture. The second single, "Sometimes", was released in June 1999 followed by the top 10 hit "Crazy" in September and "from the bottom of my broken heart" soon after. Britney ended 1999 selling over 10 million copies of her debut and, as the Billboard Top Female Pop Artist (singles and albums), Top New Pop Artist, Top Billboard 200 album Artist and Top 100 singles Artist - female. The American Awards, MTV and Teen Choice awards soon began rolling in and, in early 2000, Britney was nominated for two Grammy awards.

At just 18, Britney released her second album in 2000, the #1 smash "Oops! I did it again" and single of the same title, which topped the singles chart for 5 weeks. Smash singles "Stronger" and "Lucky" followed but, it was around this time, that Britney was beginning to raise more than a few eyebrows. It seemed some people weren't too happy with the message she was sending their impressionable young children. On one hand, Britney was the perfect picture of innocence, declaring herself a Virgin until marriage yet, on the other hand, she was sexually charged and provocative, with performance such as the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000, when her costume made her appear scantily-clad. As the young woman was growing up, it seemed there was an internal conflict between her, her management and her mother, all pulling her in different directions. Yet the image the public saw was a gorgeous young woman, beautifully dressed and damn close to perfection, often labeled the "Pop Princess" around the world. Still, the awards kept rolling in and, in early 2001, Britney struck a lucrative deal with Pepsi-Cola for sponsorship and advertising. The 19-year-old was growing up fast, with the media constantly fixed on what she was and wasn't doing, her "rivalry" with former fellow Mouseketeer Christina Aguilera and also her blossoming relationship with *NSYNC heartthrob Justin Timberlake. Britney was keen that people saw her as a growing woman as she began to ready the public for her next LP release in late 2001.

In November, she hit the top 10 with the sexually charged "I'm a slave 4 u" which took a completely different turn in musical direction from her previous singles and, in the same month, released her third LP, self-titled "Britney", which shot to the top of the albums charts, breaking records for a female artist. Her performance of "Slave" at the MTV VMA's caused outrage among animal rights campaigners, as she performed with a live giant snake and wearing little herself. It was a far cry from the Britney of just three years ago, and perhaps the critical moment when what some people would say "she started going downhill". Sales of her third album, while impressive, where not nearly as high as her former releases, perhaps due to the increase of new pop female singers flooding the market, yet Britney, still incredibly popular, carried on. In early 2002, the 20-year-old Britney released "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman", taken from the soundtrack of her debut movie Crossroads (2002/I), which was released in February of that year. She soon after hit the charts with "Overprotected" and also toured worldwide on the "Dream within a dream tour". Yet, it seemed it was all getting too much for Britney, her four year relationship with Timberlake ended suddenly and very publicly and she soon announced she was to take 6 months off, after all, she had achieved so much by such a young age and in such a short space of time. Her star was by no means fading, with "Forbes" declaring her "The World's most powerful celebrity" in mid-2002.

While she may have been on a break from her career, she was by no means breaking from the media, who followed her relentlessly, even more keen to track her down and find out what she was up to. Britney was increasingly letting her pop princess crown slip, admitting she had lost her sacred virginity to Timberlake, outside of marriage. Britney could also be seen smoking and drinking to excess on wild nights out and famously breaking down in tears while being interviewed by Diane Sawyer about her parents (who were recently divorced) and her bitter split from Timberlake. Britney was linked to men such as Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit and openly kissed Colin Farrell at a movie premiere. However, she seemed to get herself back together for her new album released in late 2003. In a blitz of publicity which included the infamous "Like a Virgin" performance and Madonna kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards in August that year. The new album, "In The Zone", was a bid to be seen as a woman and caused controversy with songs on it such as "Breathe on Me" and "Touch of my hand" - which was about masturbation - however, the appeal of Britney was still there and the album topped the Billboard 200 albums charts. The first single to be lifted was "Me against the music" a club hit that featured pop icon Madonna and singing with her was a dream come true for B'ritney. Now 22, it seemed Britney was in a lot more control over her career, yet her personal life still seemed to be slipping. In January 2004, Britney got "married" to childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander in a Las Vegas ceremony. The incident shocked the world, especially when the marriage was annulled 55 hours later and was described as "a joke taken too far" by her management.

Britney soon released one of her biggest singles, "Toxic", which topped various charts around the world including the UK and Canadian singles charts. The single was a smash-hit and silenced any critics that said Britney no longer had what it took to make a comeback. She soon began her highly publicized and overtly sexual "Onyx Hotel Tour", which was canceled a few months later after Britney damaged her knee during a video shoot and had to receive medical treatment. Other singles off the album included the gold-selling "Everytime", which topped the UK singles charts and, like usual, also carried a fair amount of controversy for its video, which allegedly depicted the star committing suicide after a fight with her boyfriend, played by Stephen Dorff; however, this was "changed" to an accident in which she drowns yet reincarnates. It was around this time that Britney began dating Kevin Federline, a former backup dancer who she had taken on tour with her a few months previously. The snag here was that Kevin came with baggage - in the form of an "ex" girlfriend, heavily pregnant "Moesha" (1996) actress Shar Jackson and their young child. Britney and Kevin soon became engaged and, in September 2004, were married in a secret ceremony, soon after the birth of Kevin's second child. That same month, Britney released a single off her upcoming "Greatest Hits" album (released in November 2004) a cover of Bobby Brown's 1988 hit "My Prerogative".

Britney was a changed woman, no longer concerned with what the public thought of her or her appearance, she parted ways with her manager who she had had since she was 13, and was increasingly stepping out looking more "trailer trash" than multi-millionaire. In February 2005, Britney won her first Grammy for the single "Toxic" as Best Dance Recording. Just two months later, it was announced Britney was pregnant with her first child. A reality TV Series "Britney & Kevin: Chaotic" (2005), which featured the pair getting to know each other the previous year, leading up to their wedding aired on UPN and eventually got a world-wide audience, despite harsh criticism. In September 2005, Britney evolved yet again, this time as a devoted wife and mother, with the birth of her first child, a son, who she named Sean Preston. In November of that year, she released a remix album "B in the mix, the Remixes".

Looking back over the last seven years of this remarkable lady's career and life, it really is hard to imagine what the face of Pop would look like without her. Here is a 24 year-old woman who has grown in the face of the glaring media from innocent School-girl to sexual pop vixen to young wife and mother. Who knows what is next for Britney? Rumours of a comeback album for 2006 have been circulating for a while and also a few more movie productions, yet one thing is for certain: Britney Spears has worked hard to get to where she is today and by no means will she be disappearing any time soon. Her name and face is legend in the media and celebrity circuit and it's surely only a matter of time before Spears shocks us all again, with her next album or tour or movie or personal move. One thing is for certain, though, the public will be watching.

Personal Quotes

Marry [Prince William Windsor]? I'd love that. Who wouldn't want to be a princess?

Onstage I'm the happiest person in the world.

[about Deborah Gibson at the 2001 American Music Awards] She's the original bubble-gum diva.

I remember I read this harsh review about my show, and one of my friends told me that this was the exact same stuff people said about Madonna. And it's like, she didn't care. Madonna just came out and was herself. I respect that a lot.

Just because I look sexy on the cover of "Rolling Stone" doesn't mean I'm naughty.

[referring to fellow pop-princess and former Mouseketeer Christina Aguilera] Christina and I are friends no matter what the media makes up.

England is one of my favorite places. The fans are just so crazy.

I would really, really, really like to be a legend like Madonna. Madonna knows what to do next, and when she's performing, the audience is just in awe of her.

[when asked about the perks of being famous] I get to go to a lot of overseas places, like Canada. [she was born in the US]

Her mother Lynne Spears on Britney's upbringing] I was not a permissive mother at all.

[on her relationship with Justin Timberlake during the "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" (1989)] We were, like, 12 or 13 and it was like, "Hi, do you like me?" It was like puppy love.

[about the tour to promote her third album [released in November 2001] I really want this to be like shocking and in people's faces and edgy. It's just basically, you know, there's a lot of scrutiny with everything I do. And, it's basically saying that I'm not a little girl anymore and this is me. And just, you know, I have to do what I have to do for me, and that's basically the overall scheme of it, yeah.

[about recording a song with boyfriend Justin Timberlake for her third album] I have to say I was a little nervous at first. I'm used to producers going in there and it's like work. And, I go in and I work and I do my vocals and work. And, I thought that it was awkward at first because I was nervous recording with him doing my vocals, but then I just totally forgot that he was my boyfriend, and I just said "Britney, just do the vocals, don't be nervous, don't be retarded like this." But, it ended up being fine, actually. At the very end, I got the best vocals I've ever done.

I dress the way I want. I don't pretend to be someone I'm not.

I love Jessica Simpson. I love her voice. She's amazing. I have her CD, and I have [Christina Aguilera's] CD. I have all of their CDs. They're amazing. You know? I have a lot of respect for them. Anybody who can be in this business . . . the work is so overwhelming sometimes and anybody who can do that I have a lot of respect for.

I find it so funny that people find me so interesting. And, I hate when they're like "Define your image." I don't know what my image is. I just do my thing.

[at a German chocolate museum, 1/18/02] Chocolate for me is just like an orgasm.

Acting is so much fun. It is a different ball game and I want to concentrate on that at the moment. I'm really passionate about what I do. I love entertainment and telling stories to people and I am very lucky that I am doing what I want to do.

[about her visit to the Playboy mansion] All I remember is seeing a bunch of naked girls and thinking, "I got to get out of here."

My views on virginity have not changed. I want to wait to have sex until I'm married. I do. I want to wait, but it's hard. I just want to live my life.

I guess it's because I do have a younger audience that, you know, parents worry about the role model thing. But when I was younger, I looked up to people, but I never wanted to be them. I always had my own identity. I'm an entertainer when I'm on stage, and they need to explain that to their kids. That's not my job to do that.

There are so many teenagers out there that dress more provocatively than I do, and no one says anything about them.

How can I explain this? I don't see myself -- hand on the Bible -- I know I'm not ugly, but I don't see myself as a sex symbol or this goddess-attractive beautiful person at all. When I'm on stage, that's my time to do my thing and go there and be that, and it's fun. It's exhilarating just to be something that you're not. And, people tend to believe it. I guess I just pull it off very well.

Who really cares if I've had sex? It's nobody's business. Trust me, I'm not going to have a press conference to announce it. If I mess up, I'm human. If I have a drink or I'm with someone, I'm human. I'm no different than anyone else my age.

Selling 5 million records is still good. I don't want to get jaded thinking I have to sell 10 million every time. It's not about that.

When I'm under stress, I do yoga. It's when I'm happiest that I have a problem with junk food.

I suck at flirting. There's one thing I don't understand about Hollywood. How they have a relationship, end it, and go right into the next. It's hard for a woman in this industry. Either the guy's going to be really intimidated, or they're going to kiss your ass. I'm just a girl wanting a guy to love me.

I feel like a totally different person than I was two years ago. I feel like so much of my innocence is gone. I'm still me, but this business makes you grow up so fast.

Would you go into a CD store and steal a CD? It's the same thing, people going into the computers and loggin' on and stealing our music.

[about her breakup with boyfriend Justin Timberlake] The most painful thing I have ever experienced was that breakup. We were together so long and I had this vision. You think you're going to spend the rest of your life together. Where I come from, the woman is the homemaker, and that's how I was brought up -- you cook for your kids.

If I was to pick a cartoon character I am most like, I would say Daisy Duck, because she is very stubborn, she has a very feminine sense and she knows what she likes.

As an artist, I would probably go on stage and bump and grind with a dancer. In real life, never.

When I look into a mirror, I am very critical of myself. I see a goofy girl.

Tony Blair? I've never heard of him either. Who is he?

I can't sing the same kind of thing all the time. That would bore me.

I don't listen to anybody. Nobody can tell me anything. I'm stubborn. If somebody tells me not to do something, I do it. But I do listen to Madonna. For some reason I listen to her. I know that sounds really silly. It's nice to have somebody just to ask questions to. She's a visual artist and a deep artist as well. I like the way she thinks. I wish I could be inside her head. I like Madonna's carer, and what she's done with her family.

I've got an amazing group of people around me and my family at home. If I don't make my bed and wash the dishes at home, I'm in trouble.

I'm not the type of person that can be cooped up in the hotel room being served all the time. I can't deal with that. I've got to do normal things.

Performing is what I like most. I find the studio very confining. You can do a lot in there, and you get the opportunity to try again and again. But on stage you have the adrenalin going and you've got one shot and the energy is so intense.

It feels like I've been dreaming this forever and then it happens and it feels like a whirlwind. I'm constantly traveling and I miss my friends.

[Justin Timberlake] was my first kiss. We were playing "Truth or Dare" and listening to Janet Jackson. I was 12. His friend dared him to kiss me, so that was my first kiss.

Bottom line: If you love yourself, it will all work out.

This is my dream come true. I can't believe this is happening right now. I can't believe I even have a movie. I feel very blessed to be where I am right now.

[on being photographed without panties] Anyway, thank God for Victoria's Secret's new underwear line!

[on why she has yet to tour Australia] I really love Australia, great place, but it's just so far away to go to for a concert, and that makes it hard - but I'll definitely take a course there for a tour next time. I'd really love to.

[regarding the policies of President George W. Bush regarding the invasion of Iraq] I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that.

I've never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don't like eating fish. And I know that's very popular out there in Africa.

[On receiving a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame] I'm seriously speechless right now. This is something that I've dreamed about since I was a little girl. I can't believe I'm actually here with all of you amazing fans. Hello?

How do I keep slim? Having two boys definitely helps, and I love to dance. It's the best way to stay in shape.

I love treating myself to a spa day. Massages are my favorite.

Sometimes I keep it simple and don't wear much make-up - just a little mascara and lip gloss. Other times, I'll play around and do heavier make-up or some fun lipstick.

I love, love, love Madonna! She's one of my inspirations.

I'm really just a boring homebody who loves staying home with my kids and that's where I'm the happiest.

I'm at such a different point in my life now than I was back then. You have to think about all your decisions so much more carefully, because they are affecting your kids too. My priorities have changed, and I do everything for [the boys]. They remind me what life is really all about.

[on her children]: They are my biggest fans. I make up songs and sing to them all the time, they like to watch me dance. In fact, they join in and do their own moves! I couldn't go on tour without them! I'm always very busy when I'm on the road, but I make sure to have quality time with them every single day.
